These institutions operate independently and not affiliated with Catholic Charities which means they might have changed their hours of operation and they might not be providing services anymore. Please, make sure you contact them before visiting.

This includes clothes, shelter, basic supplies and security deposit assistance.

The center offer assistance to pregnant women, including baby clothes, free pregnancy testing, and referrals as needed. The clothing closet may also have diapers and some small furniture items, such as cribs or diaper changing stations.

Resources include Christmas toys drives, social services, clothes for work, shoes, and more. There are also free backpacks and school supply items for students of all ages in Essex County and surronding communities. Other services include Welfare-to-work program applications, public access to computers, food, and emergency food and rent assistance.

Goodwill Industries of Greater NY and Northern NJ

There are a couple locations of this non-profit charity in Essex County. They are noted below. The center both accepts and sells donations of gently used or new clothing. This includes shoes, toys, accessories, and household goods. Gently used furniture is also offer, including vouchers for free items. Please contribute if you can and also note all donations are tax-deductible.

Furniture Assist

A regional free furniture bank that covers Essex County too as well as other parts of New Jersey. What may be offered includes couches, kitchen tables, beds, tables, sofas, car seats and more. They also have electronics, appliances, kitchen pots and pans and so much more. Call 973-868-6007.

Provides information, supportive services and referral to the low income and working poor. This includes clothing, relocation assistance, help for seniors and disabled and more. Students from elementary to high school can get free uniforms and other back to school supplies, and they help Spanish and non-ESL speakers too.

Salvation Army of Essex County and Newark

Many assistance programs are administered for the low income, immigrants, and others. Each summer a free school supply giveaway takes place, with shoes, notebooks, pens, pencils, backpacks and more. There is also a free food pantry, low cost thrift store, clothing and furniture banks.

In order to receive clothing or holiday assistance, the individuals needs to be referred by phone from a community agency or social service organization. They will need to call the non-profit with client details. Clothing may be offered to those that qualify.
